Minister Schreiber’s Push to Clear Visa Backlog Gains Momentum

South Africa's new Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Leon Schreiber, has set his sights on a monumental task: clearing the staggering backlog of over 300,000 visa applications currently stuck at local home affairs offices and foreign missions. Schreiber has identified this issue as one of his top priorities since taking office, and his optimism is palpable. He believes that the department will be able to clear this backlog by December this year.

Recent reports from the department indicate that substantial progress has already been made, with around 90,000 of these applications finalized. This momentum is beginning to have a noticeable impact. At Bruss & Co Immigration, we've observed a significant increase in the number of applications being finalized and on a daily basis, we see between 300 to 400 people in the collection queues at VFS, a clear sign that the backlog is indeed being addressed.

However, while the urgency to clear the backlog by the end of 2024 is commendable, the rush to meet this deadline could result in a higher number of applications being rejected due to rushed adjudication. It's crucial that the drive for efficiency does not compromise the quality and accuracy of the application process.

For those navigating the complexities of the immigration system, now is an opportune time to seek professional guidance. Bruss & Co Immigration offers a free consultation to help you ensure your visa application is thorough and compliant, minimizing the risk of rejection.
